2026 Safeguarding Week

Safeguarding Week returns from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November, with a growing programme of events bringing together professionals and organisations from across the Isle of Man.

Monday, October 26, 2026

This year’s programme offers a mixture of in-person and online learning, practitioner forums and informal drop-in sessions, providing opportunities to learn, reflect, ask questions and share good safeguarding practice.

What’s happening?

The week will begin with Paula McGowan discussing Oliver McGowan and his legacy, sharing Oliver’s story and the important learning for health and care professionals. The session will be available both in person and online.

Other events already confirmed include:

  • Learning from the Thematic Review, with Nicki Pettitt, considering the learning from the review and what it means for practice across agencies.
  • Understanding Trauma: Why it Matters, a bite-sized session with Nicki Pettitt exploring trauma-informed and trauma-skilled practice.
  • Online Safety, an informal practitioner drop-in with colleagues from the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance, exploring digital risk, cybercrime, fraud and online exploitation.
  • Sight Loss and Safeguarding, an informal session with Sight Matters exploring the additional safeguarding challenges people living with sight loss may experience.
  • Learning from Peter, an interactive multi-agency practitioner forum providing space to reflect on the learning from Child P and consider what it means for everyday safeguarding practice.

And there is more still to come as the programme continues to develop.

Could your organisation get involved?

Safeguarding Week is not just about events organised by the Safeguarding Board. We want organisations across the Island to get involved too.

Perhaps you could hold a team discussion, workshop or awareness-raising activity, share safeguarding resources, or use the week to highlight some of the safeguarding work already taking place within your organisation.

If you are planning something for Safeguarding Week, we would love to hear from you. Let us know what you are doing and we can look at including it within the wider programme and helping to promote it.

Safeguarding is everyone’s business. Whether you join one of our sessions or organise something of your own, we hope you’ll get involved in Safeguarding Week 2026.
