The Isle of Man Safeguarding Board offers a programme of free, multi‑agency learning and development opportunities to support effective safeguarding practice for both children and adults across the Island.
Who can apply for Learning and Development?
Safeguarding Board learning and development opportunities are open to anyone working or volunteering with children or adults on the Isle of Man, including:
- Health and social care professionals
- Education settings, including nurseries and childminders
- Third sector and voluntary organisations
- Nursing and care homes
- Isle of Man Government departments and services
- Local authorities
- Faith organisations
- Other organisations with an identified safeguarding learning need
Some learning opportunities (Level 3 and above) have specific eligibility criteria. Applicants must ensure the learning aligns with their role and competency level and must obtain line manager approval before applying.

- Refer to the relevant Safeguarding Competency Framework
- Discuss with your line manager

Our Learning and Development offer
We provide a range of learning opportunities, workshops and supporting resources, including:
eLearning
- Safeguarding Children Level 1 & 2
- Safeguarding Adults Level 1 & 2
These are available throughout the year and can be completed at your own pace.
Classroom-based learning and workshops
- Level 3 and above safeguarding learning
- Half‑day and full‑day sessions
- Interactive, multi‑agency events focused on practice
Important information
Individuals apply for Safeguarding Board learning and development opportunities. A place is not confirmed automatically and will only be reserved once the application has been reviewed and approved by the Safeguarding Board Learning and Development Team and the applicant’s line manager.
Applying for classroom-based learning and workshops
- Download the Learning and Development Application Form
- Complete all sections in full, including line manager authorisation
- Email the completed form to:
safeguardingboardtraining@gov.im
Applications are reviewed to ensure:
- Learning is appropriate to role and competency level
- Fair access across agencies
- Maximum impact across the safeguarding partnership
Where sessions are oversubscribed, a waiting list will be held and places offered as they become available.
Applicants may be contacted after attending learning to take part in a short follow‑up discussion to help evaluate the impact of learning on practice.
The Safeguarding Board usually publishes planned learning and development opportunities twice per year.

You will receive a link to access the training. Courses are self‑directed and a certificate is generated on completion.
